The Rochelle Park Police Department Communications Center was staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by full-time and part-time Public Safety Telecommunication Operators and police officers since 1994.  Our 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point was our longstanding partners at the Paramus Police Department who would transfer the calls to our dispatch center. Our Telecommunicators were all trained in the Basic Telecommunicator Course and were the voice and face of the police department to many who would come into police headquarters seeking help, make a report or merely obtaining information. We thank all our former dispatchers for their valuable service in helping us in our mission to provide a high level of personalized law enforcement services to our small town.

However, on May 13, 2026, the Township Committee unanimously voted to turn over the dispatching and 9-1-1 responsibilities to the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center.  https://bergencountynj.gov/bergen-county-department-of-public-safety/about-communications/what-is-the-psoc/

This cost-savings shared services agreement will still provide the highest quality of services to residents, workers and visitors within the Township of Rochelle Park. Additionally, there will be a dedicated emergency phone in the lobby of headquarters available 24/7/365 that will ring directly at the Public Safety Operations Center and answered by a trained call-taker who will be able to get information or help as needed. Despite there not being personnel present all the time; the lobby will be monitored by video cameras and will remain a safe place for those who may need it.

The Rochelle Park Police Department remains steadfastly committed to the safety and welfare of all our residents and stakeholders. Working with the governing body as part of this transition we have been able to upgrade our 30+ year-old radio and communications equipment with the most up-to-date Motorola Solutions mobile and portable radios as part of the County-wide radio network that will now provide full coverage for our officers which in turn will remove any “dead-spots” in town that officers had to deal with, providing better safety and security through enhanced communication abilities which is now expanded to cover all of Bergen County and beyond.
